Guidelines for Historical Inquiry Project
Historical Inquiry Project - The first Alaska History performance standard (AH. HI 1) deals with historical inquiry. It requires that the student demonstrate an understanding of the methods of documenting history by planning and developing history projects, utilizing research tools such as: interviewing protocols, oral history, historical context, pre-interview research, primary sources, secondary sources, proper citation, corroboration, and cause and effect of historical events. Information from the National History Day contest is offered as a guide for students and teachers in developing and grading historical inquiry projects. On the course web site there is information on the following.
- Selecting a topic
- Researching a topic
- Designing a documentary, exhibit, paper, or performance
- Creating an annotated bibliography
- Evaluating the project
Additionally, if students have a question, they can ask an historian from the National Park Service to respond on line via the course web site link included in this portion of the Teacher's Guide.
