Regional History Map

The Regional History map, found both on the home page and on every sidebar, presents information on the five geographic/cultural regions of the state as identified by the Alaska Historical Library. These regions are the Northern, Interior, Southcentral, Southeastern, Western and Aleutian.

The Alaska History Performance Standards call upon students to know the political, social, cultural, economic, geographic and historic characteristics of their own community or region. This section of the course helps to meet this need. Teachers have found that connecting students with their own local/regional history often spurs interest in statewide history.

Caveat: The information in the regional history portion of the course was developed by the Alaska Historical Society in the 1980's and, therefore, is dated. We challenge all students and teachers to contribute to the ongoing historical story of their region by summiting updated information for use on this portion of the web site.
